How to choose the most effective method and the best piano teacher?
Hello!
Thank you for downloading and (hopefully) starting to read my book You CAN be a Musician.
Choosing the right approach to teaching or learning music and finding a good teacher is the path to success not only in music, but also in each of our lives.
I hope my book will help you understand what the real, organic growth of a beginner is built on - and where the boundaries can be pushed too hard and abuse the nature of the beginner’s abilities.
Unfortunately, we judge how professional a music teacher is by watching his/her best students on a stage.
How correct is this criterion?
History knows many cases in which children, who became famous performers, later confess to the violence and abuse they experienced from their teachers
This is because it is not customary to equate music pedagogy with science.
"How can you determine what is right in music and what is wrong? Music is not mathematics or physics!" such would-be experts will tell you.
"There are thousands and thousands of approaches in teaching music, and each beginner requires a separate, individualized approach. Therefore, there is not a single correct method!"
Is this so?
There can be many approaches to working with music. It's true.
In working with a person, the choices are not so many.
The main thing is not to confuse one subject with another, and many do not see the difference!
In music, the priority is the language of sounds and notes.
The main thing here is not to harm the music.
In musical pedagogy, the main thing is the laws of psychology, physiology, psychoneurology and human perception.
The main thing here is not to harm a person.
I want you to understand this difference well!
In music pedagogy without knowledge of human nature, professional narcissism flourishes when the teacher uses the beginner to create perfect music.
That is why we hear so often that each student needs "his or her own approach"! Not knowing the basic laws of physiology and psychology, the narcissist teacher tries to mold the student in his or her own image.
Therefore, in the process, the teacher experiments on a beginner, testing various training techniques on him or her.
After all, creating your copy from a completely different person is not easy!
All “for the sake of music,” but actually for the personal ambitions of the narcissist, of course.
To paraphrase Tolstoy: "All unhappy approaches are ineffective in their own way. All happy ones are the same."
Knowledge of the exact laws and truths about human psychology and physiology reduces the scope of experiments on beginners to zero.
A true professional teacher clearly and boldly understands what specific difficulties the human perception system faces in the process of mastering knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as what needs to be done to make the learning process as comfortable, exciting and effective as possible.
Next time I will tell you about what every person who wants to achieve the highest results in teaching or learning the language of music must know firsthand.
Sincerely yours,
Hellene Hiner
