Letter from the Kingdom of Tune #6. Uncle What If: Major and Minor news

To all Letter

Hello, {{ subscriber.first_name }}!

The Brother of Queen Tonic, the Personal Secretary of the King, Uncle What If is sending this email to you!

Here is my photo next to the King.

Image

In our State, the king is very decisive. He is a leader for real!

Image

I am the complete opposite:  I love to have fun and enjoy life. This, of course, happens more often when the King sleeps, asks nothing and does not give out orders . . .

Image

I wanted to write on his royal face: “Don’t work too hard!” But I changed my mind.

So, I drew a sharp on his cheek . . . and two slurs under his nose . . . and two whole notes around his eyes!

I think this is a fun joke. Would you like it if someone did that to you?

While the King is resting, I invited everyone to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.

The Princess and the Queen agreed to join me.  Hooray!  We enjoy each other’s company always!

Image

Here is the first photo shoot from our trip. Princess and I are fishing on the lake. Queen Tonic is taking our picture.

While we are sitting quietly and waiting for the fish to start biting, can you find our keys on your piano?

Image

My key is two to the right of the Princess’s. Can you guess whose key is in between us?

Shhhh . . . Please, don’t say his name out loud. We don’t want to wake the King!

As you see, I am the third key from the Princess. In our Kingdom, this interval is called the third!

Image

O! So sweet! On my phone, I just found this picture from the past, when the Princess was tiny. I used to toss her in the air like this!

You can hear how our melody and harmony sound if her key is above mine! You can play how I am tossing her and listen!

Image

Well, since you already started working on this, can you count our interval now? The starting point is my key!

That's right, 6! In our Kingdom, the interval "Six" is called the sixth.

Can you guess whose keys are between the Princess’s and mine now?

If you can’t name all of the keys, it’s OK. In Soft Mozart Academy, you will learn them quickly!

Tomorrow, by the way, the Princess goes to school. Did you reserve a place there, too?

Image

Look how much fun we are having now! * Big thanks to our Butterfly for agreeing to take a photo for you. *

We have a word in our Kingdom -- chord! This means that three different sounds play together.

If there are three sounds like this, we call it a triad!

Image

Don't we sound good together?
We lovingly call this triad "Subdominant." Well, you know after whom, right? ;)

Image

We boarded the boat and decided to release all the caught fish. I'm rowing! Can you play our trio in the same sequence as we sit in the boat, starting with myself?

Image

Try to do that. It is FUN!

And while you are learning, we are going to the mountains. There, the Princess wants to draw a little!

Do you like drawing? Can you draw someone from the Kingdom of Tune? I hope it will be me because the Princess drew herself, her mom and . . . her dad -- King Dominant.

How I wish someone would draw me, too!

Well, once I remembered the King, it was time to go home!

Image

Here is one last picture for you from this trip made by our Butterfly.

Can you now try to play our trio in the order we sit from the left to right?

Image

I will continue my letter from the palace.
Did you like the description of my day? Describe your day somehow, too!
…..
Sorry, I am distracted by some sounds. It seems that the King has awakened! Perhaps he is looking for the person who painted his face ;) I can’t miss that much fun! I’ll be right back!
I am back.
Alas -- alas -- alas . . .

We have bad news. And it is not that the King didn’t like my painting on his face. Everything is much worse: the Princess’s briefcase is lost. On the eve of school!
. . .
Sorry, I did not make the letter long enough. I hoped to finish it on a joyous note . . . In our State, this is called “in Major.”

But, unfortunately, while I can’t say anything major to you now.
There is news everywhere:

Image

The Minor is declared in our State. It changes everything!
I hope you have better news for us? Come, share what you have learned so far!

Your new friend
Uncle What If
